Overarching attendance objectives and strategic priorities
·       Regular school attendance makes a big difference. Everyday counts, and we know that missing too many days leads to lower achievement and low wellbeing. Frequent non‑attendance is associated with worse wellbeing outcomes, including schoolwork‑related anxiety, decreased sense of belonging, fewer friendships with peers and exposure to bullying.

Attendance policy
·       Please refer to our Attendance Policy on School Docs.

Attendance management procedures
·        We will communicate any changes with families as they occur. Expectations around attendance will be shared at the start of each year and communicated home regularly throughout the year.

·        When whanau record their child’s absence through the skool loop app, school website, phoning the school or coming into school, this is recorded in our attendance book and on our student management system – Etap. The roll is taken twice daily, once at 9am and again at 1.30pm.  If we have an unexplained absence in the morning roll call, we will make contact home by 9.30am.

·        We will be following the STEP guidelines for Individualised student responses to absence thresholds. (See attachment below)

Monitoring and measuring progress
·        The Board of Rongotea School will review the Attendance Management Plan annually. Any changes will be shared with the school community and updated on our school docs site.
