After about 12 months the Te Kawau community has raised approx $150K towards the refurbishment of the local Rongotea pool. Quotes have been received for a filtration upgrade, tiles, heat pumps, and solar heating. An electrical upgrade, alterations to the existing pump shed, and a new change shed roof are also required.
Due to unknown costs for contingency and project advisors it has been decided to carry out the upgrade in stages. The first stage will cost $300K-$400K.
An application to the Lottery fund has been made this month. The outcome will be known late May, and if successful, work could start on the pool late September, weather permitting.
Fingers crossed that the generosity of our great community is rewarded and the refurbishment can begin.

User Agreement : MOU: (between Rongotea School and the community/TKS) T. Anderson, E. Nagel, KJ Powell and F. Mullin will meet 1st March to get this process underway. There was some discussion around putting the pool into the hall agreement. – thought too complicated.
MOE/board meeting: MOE reps advised if the pool upgrade was to exceed $350K?) it would be hard for the school to put aside the depreciation and write the debt off over 20 years.
Feasibility Study/pre feasibility study. Not required for applications to Lotteries under $250K.
Entrapment issue with the rail in the toddlers pool: Sorted (thanks T. Mossop)
